HIX consultants have performed many successful projects involving EDM (Electronic Document Management), HIM automation, HIM record and hard copy file systems, EMPI (Enterprise Master Patient Identification) and EHR (Electronic Health Record) strategies. The Below listed projects performed by HIX consultants represent the broad range of activities we cover on a routine basis.
Parrish Medical Center: January 2010
Health Information Xperts was retained by Parrish Medical Center to create an updated HIPAA Privacy Compliance Program including policies, procedures, HIPAA education, reporting forms and logs. This project was accomplished by utilizing existing, well executed HIPAA Privacy policies and procedures and bringing them up to date with all HITECH language and adapting procedures to meet the new requirements, including OCR (Office of Civil Rights) reporting.
Shands Healthcare at the University of Florida - Gainesville, Florida
Kelly McLendon, RHIA served as the Project Manager for the iHIRM project based on Siemens Document Imaging and On-line Medical Record product. All phases from budgetary input to final Go Live (creating a day forward paperless HIM department) were managed.
Mercy Health Partners (MHP) – Toledo, Ohio CDMC Hard Copy Record Project
MHP Toledo Region hospitals (St Vincent’s, St Charles and St. Anne) are part of the larger Catholic Health Partners organization. Kelly McLendon sub-contracting through Darice Grzybowski’s HIMentors, LLC, performed extensive planning and strategies surrounding the consolidation of dozens of file areas into a single, hospital owned Central Document Management Center which will house not only hundreds of thousands of linear inches of file space but also the new scan operation and Release of Information. Records were counted, measured, indexed and moved into extensive, brand new mobile and static shelving.
Mercy Health Partners (MHP) – Toledo, Ohio McKesson HPF Project
MHP Toledo Region hospitals (St Vincent’s, St Charles and St. Anne) are part of the larger Catholic Health Partners organization. Kelly McLendon sub-contracting through Darice Grzybowski’s HIMentors, LLC, performed extensive planning and strategies surrounding the implementation of McKesson’s HPF (Horizon Patient Folder) EDM system. Once implementation began Kelly McLendon served as HIM knowledge resource, guiding he project with his extensive expertise.
Citrus Memorial – Inverness Florida
Kelly McLendon and Rebecca Way, RHIA began this project with an initial consulting visit. A few weeks later Citrus contacted us to provide interim HIM departmental management with goals of complete HIM operational transformation, for this we provided the very experienced Karen Youmans, RHIA. This process is creating operational benchmarks and measurements that will be of use to many facilities that are embarking upon EDM system implementation, especially (but by no means exclusively) those with McKesson HPF. Coding, transcription, deficiency analysis, coding, scan capture and all other HIM operations are being re-engineered into state-of-the-art processes which are significantly reducing the departmental operating expenses. They are also finished implementing a comprehensive paperless HIM department with McKesson’s HPF product.
El Camino Hospital – Mountainview California
El Camino was the first hospital in the nation to implement the TDS 7000 computerized medical record in the 1980’s. They have always been at the forefront of practice and decided to bring Eclipsys in to manage their HIM Outsourcing operation. Kelly McLendon, RHIA served as Project Manager for the implementation (with little hospital capital needed) of the 2nd ChartOne ChartVault site. Linda Sweeney, RHIA is pleased to announce that she has achieved clears benefits including staff reduction from her paperless HIM operations.
Stony Brook, SUNY (State University New York) – Stony Brook Long Island
Kelly McLendon was called in to strategize e and calculate the movement future management (storage, scanning, new files, etc), as well as, planning for expansion of their Eclipsys Record Manager product into the management of their Inpatient records.
Upstate University Hospital, SUNY (State University New York) – Syracuse New York
Kelly McLendon has been engaged to perform education, RFI generation, EDM system evaluation and vendor selection strategies in the current phase. This is a Vendor agnostic exercise where the truly qualified Vendor will be identified and selected for HIM, Registration and Patient Accounts.
Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital – Part of Stanford University – Palo Alto, California
Kelly McLendon was engaged to assist and be a knowledgeable resource during the change out from older LanVision EDM to Cerner Document Imaging to follow a comprehensive plan to move all applications into the Cerner universe of products. The project also included work on the Legal Health Record.
Shands Hospital –Jacksonville
Kelly McLendon and Rebecca Way worked with Mary Mike Pavoni and Kelly Page under an Endeavour sub-contract to assess and give recommendations for removal of a new hard copy file storage Outsourcing Vendor to a more comprehensive solution. Full departmental operations were assessed and plans created for moving forward with McKesson’s HPF. Many operations metrics and work processes were created. The net result was a much lower error rate and less expensive contract to manage the vast volume of records in a day forward (immediately after paper chart completion model).
Public Hospitals Authority – Nassau Bahamas
Kelly McLendon and Rebecca Way worked under sub-contract to ADS in the assessment and report on options for moving forward with a EDM project. This EDM project is on the books and being planned, but first a merge of 3 HIS database must occur. HIX’s Rebecca Way is consulting in reference to EMPI implications.
North Shore Long Island Jewish – Long Islands New York
Rebecca Way has been sub-contracted to Eclipsys Outsourced IT to design rules, processes, test and Go Live with a multi facility Eclipsys EMPI. This highly complex project is being created from the ground up with Becky as the Project Manger.
Fairview Health Services
Kelly McLendon worked with Eclipsys to determine strategies for moving forward with a EDM procurement. Plans were made and strategies developed. EHR and EDM differentiation was addressed.
